Granted patents provide their owners with an important right which can be employed in a variety of commercial scenarios and in which the questions of infringement and validity will be considered. In the UK, such questions will often fall to be determined by way of litigation conducted before either the Patent County Court or the High Court. Each of WP Thompson & Co’s partners practising in the patents field has a right of audience before the Patents County Court. Within the patent team there is also a wealth of experience of High Court litigation and the firm has had involvement in various relatively high profile cases in the recent past. Currently two of the partners have obtained the Patent Attorney Litigator Certificate and this serves to expand options available to our clients when litigation, or at least the potential for litigation, arises.
In addition to litigation concerning questions of patent infringement and validity, partners within the W. P. Thompson & Co. also have experience of a variety of patent disputes, for example concerning questions of entitlement.
