Gill is a European and UK Patent Attorney. She handles cases in the life science, chemistry and chemical and mechanical engineering fields including pharmaceuticals, process technologies for the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, food, cosmetics, and medical devices.
Having worked in industry Gill understands the need to ensure that any patent strategy matches the commercial aims and budgets of her clients. Her domestic client base ranges from small companies to large corporations with worldwide portfolios. Gill tailors advice and strategies to match their different requirements.
Managing worldwide patent portfolios for her direct clients means that Gill understands the frustrations of her colleagues abroad providing this service to their clients. She works with counsel to provide the best strategy for Europe while being mindful of their worldwide strategy.
She provides clients with advice on the freedom to operate in their commercial sector, whether by searches, opinions, strategic advice, or by attacking third party rights through, for example, oppositions. Gill is also experienced in defending client’s rights against attack and, where appropriate, negotiating settlements.
Gill regularly represent clients in EPO oppositions. This forum represents an interesting challenge to the representative requiring more than just an understanding of the case but also the flair to be able to think on your feet. Whilst litigation is not something any company should undertake lightly it is part of the armoury and where appropriate she is there to assist her clients through the process.
Her trade mark practice spans brand management, and the filing and prosecution of trade marks at home and abroad including oppositions and third party disputes. Gill works closely with customs on anti-counterfeiting activities.
Gill writes and speak regularly on IP. She is a contributor to International Pharmaceutical Law & Practice and Community Trade Mark Handbook.
