Firm Profile
W P THOMPSON & CO was established in 1873 and deals with patents, trade marks, designs and copyright and all other forms of Intellectual Property (IP).
Since that date, long-standing relationships have been developed with firms throughout the world which allow the firm to respond promptly and effectively to clients' IP enquiries and requirements irrespective of the subject matter and territory concerned. Also, as the importance of IP becomes increasingly recognised on an international scale, and even the so-called developing countries begin to establish modern systems for administering IP rights so the firms practice has taken on an increasingly international dimension which is reflected in the increasing variety of routes available for securing rights such as patents and trade mark registrations.
In developing its practice so as to respond to the ever-changing world presented by leading edge technical development, the firm has also seen its internal administration and operations alter dramatically from the distinctly manual procedure employed by Mr William Phillips Thompson in the late 1800s.
In 1990 the firm merged with Pollak Mercer & Tench, a firm which was established in 1909 under the name Dicker & Pollak. Currently the firm has ten partners, comprising Chartered Patent Attorneys, European Patent Attorneys and Registered Trade Mark Agents. Brief details of the partners follow, although no attempt is made to give a full list of all professional bodies to which they belong.
