Further Delay to the Implementation of New Canadian Trade Mark Law

13/02/17

The implementation of new trade mark law in Canada has been postponed again and is now unlikely to come into force before 2019.

The changes to be introduced by the new law are significant, including the removal of the ‘use’ requirement for registration, the implementation of the Nice International Classification System and accession to the Madrid Protocol, raising a number of issues and opportunities for brand owners.
