OHIM Fee Reductions
Charlie McCreevy, the European Union's internal market Commissioner has announced that he intends to reduce Community trade mark application and registration fees by up to 40%. The announcement follows an agreement with some of the national offices of the member states of the EU, who feared that the proposed fee reduction would result in a fall of the number of national applications. The agreement reportedly involves a percentage of the resulting renewal fees being forwarded to national offices for the purpose of 'promoting and protecting trade marks'. Further details of the agreement have yet to be announced.
