John graduated from the University of Manchester in 2020 with a First-Class Honours degree in Genetics, and again in 2022 with a distinction in MSci. Biotechnology and Enterprise. John’s research included a project on recombinant protein production in the chloroplast of the model alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, and a project on modelling splicing defects in the context of mutations of a core spliceosomal gene associated with a craniofacial disease. He also project managed an enterprise project formulating a hypothetical business plan relating to virus-like particles as nanocarriers for drug delivery. He was awarded outstanding achievement awards for both of his degrees for achieving the highest grades of his cohorts.
Prior to joining the patent profession with WP Thompson in 2022, John was a Bioscience Lead in an accredited medical laboratory performing COVID-19 diagnostics at the height of the pandemic.
